On Maat and the weighing of Egyptian hearts…
I’ve been thinking about the Egyptian myth of every dead person’s heart being weighed against the feather of truth and order. They were consumed by Ammit, Devourer of the Dead if it was heavier than that feather. I used to think this was a standard “be a good person” prescription, but now I wonder if a “heavy heart” meant someone who carried calcified and useless self-recrimination about their mistakes.
If this life is a cosmic RPG, a Shakespearean play with parts written toward melodrama, then its purpose is for edutainment. Those mistakes and hurts we inflict, intentional or unintentional, are all part of the script. Should we let those crappy parts cripple our soul, or should we take the learning, be better, and know that it’s not a flaw or unworthiness in our makeup but a challenge to level up? I wonder if the Egyptians meant to have a light heart, accept failures, and know that the purpose is to make us better beings and to “have a good time.”
On that note, have you ever heard of Spiritism?
Not Spiritualism, but Spiritism. It was born around the same time (the mid-1800s) and follows a fairly similar doctrine, the main difference being that Spiritism believes in reincarnation. Allan Kardec, the creator, was born Hippolyte Léon Denizard Rivail in France and wrote extensively about mediumistic stuff under the nome-de-plume mentioned earlier. Spiritism is huge in Brazil to this day but seems under the radar everywhere else. I highly recommend reading Kardec’s The Spirits Book, which is in a question-and-answer format, with the other side responding to questions through a medium. It’s a really easy read and makes a ton of sense.
Speaking of instrumental transcommunication…
If you are a fan of itc (instrumental transcommunication), it’s worth a trip to varanormal.com A lot of links to forums and tools for that sort of thing.
I was thinking that a theremin could be rigged for communications somehow. Its graduated sensor could be wired up to a word database or some such to enable a spirit touch mechanism to manipulate what words are displayed or even have an alphabet selection function that prints a letter out on a screen.
We have to think of ways that are easy to teach and use from the other side. It seems dubious to me that even though they are on the other side, somehow they would know how to reach inside a weird box and manipulate circuits to say words, a la the Ovilus. Especially someone who died before the adventure of circuitry! Hit me up if that theremin idea excites you and you are an electrical experimenter.
That’s it for now, peeps. Please drop feedback for me if something resonates.
